Like many people, you may be considering a career change. You may also be considering going for certification rather than a full college degree. There are many benefits to certifications including a lower cost than full college programs and a quicker path to a new career. One of these types of certification is a CAOHC, also known as an Occupational Hearing Conservationist. If you want to work in audiology, this may be the right certification for you. Here are some of the career options you will have open to you once you have completed the CAOHC certification course.
Traveling Occupational Health Technician
There are many hospitals and small physician groups that are running short-handed on staff. One of the higher-paying options for you in the audiology field is becoming a traveling occupational health technician. These jobs may be for a few months or longer and can lead to long-term contracts. You will be working with occupational care and audiology offices as a hearing test administrator or with various groups who see patients in underdeveloped areas.
Audiometric Technician
As an audiometric technician, you will be administering hearing tests on groups of people. This job can take place in an office setting, or it can be in a mobile setting. In a mobile setting, you may be traveling to different business locations and performing hearing tests for a small amount of time. This is usually done over the course of a few days and the employees of the company will be sent to your mobile unit for their test. This allows the company to ensure their employees all have an updated hearing screening. You may be asked to return once a year to perform the same tests.
Mobile Screening Technician
One of the increasingly popular career options in audiology is with becoming a mobile screening technician. This job allows you to visit different locations and see different people almost daily. You may be at a school one day and at a construction site the next. Your job is similar to a mobile audiometric technician as you both are in mobile units performing hearing tests. However, the mobile screening technician may work many different hours and is considered an entry-level position. This may be the ideal option if you are trying to figure out exactly what audiology job is the right fit for you.
If you are unsure of what type of career you want with the CAOHC certification course, discuss options with your trainer or with an audiologist already working in the field. The careers mentioned here are only a small sampling of what will be available to you.
