How To Get The Most From A Staffing Services Provider

Staffing services providers can help businesses find the right people to fill jobs. Whether you're looking for short- or long-term hires, there are several ways to improve your staffing results.

Describe the Opening Well

Much of the staffing process is about matching. Choosing between Person A and Person B is only likely to be challenging if there isn't a way to differentiate how the two potential hires match the job.

Take time to look at what position's specific duties are. If there are unique requirements, such as the ability to lift a certain amount of weight, make sure those are included. Talk with people in the department with the opening about what they need from whoever takes on the role.

Keep Promises Reasonable

While it might initially serve to attract more candidates, it's a bad idea to promise more than you can deliver with a job offer. For example, don't say that there are opportunities for promotions if you're sure everyone hired will be let go once a project is done. Workers who go through staffing services talk with each other in person and online, and they quickly learn which companies play it straight with them. It's better to promise less and then surprise people with long-term opportunities than to risk developing a bad reputation.

Qualifications

Whenever possible, try to limit the list of qualifications to what's necessary. A staffing services firm can rule people out later in the process if they miss the mark in some particular area.

The same goes for experience requirements. Asking for the moon can eliminate too many candidates, and it's usually best to rule people in initially and then remove them from the pool later if they're not good fits.

Notably, you don't want to unnecessarily loosen requirements for jobs that require extensive qualifications. Set the qualifications to whatever level represents the minimum for a candidate to do the job well if hired.

Hire in Batches

Although it's not always possible to do large numbers of hires at once, attempt to do so if the circumstances permit. This will allow the staffing services company the chance to work with a large talent pool. It's also often more appealing for candidates if they know a single application gives them several chances.

Trust the Process

Even the best staffing professionals need time to get the job done. Plan accordingly. If you need to add 10 people, for example, get the staffing process rolling well before the start date.
